Description
Fluticone® Nasal Spray, produced by Cadila Healthcare, contains Fluticasone Propionate as an active ingredient, which is a medium-potency synthetic corticosteroid that fights inflammation.
Indications:
- preventing and treating seasonal allergic rhinitis (e.g. due to hayfever) and perennial rhinitis (e.g. blocked nose, runny nose, sneezing, itching caused by house dust mites or animals).
MOA (mechanism of action):
Fluticasone Propionate is a topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. Corticosteroids inhibit multiple cell types (e.g., mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes) and mediators (e.g., histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines) involved in allergic and non-allergic-mediated inflammation. These anti-inflammatory actions contribute to the efficacy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.
Dosage
Adults and children aged 12 years and older: initially 2 sprays in each nostril once a day, preferably in the morning. Your doctor may increase this to a maximum of 2 sprays into each nostril twice a day.
Once your symptoms are controlled, reduce the dose to 1 spray into each nostril once a day. If the use of such a reduced dose signals a worsening in your symptoms, your dose may be increased back to the initial dose.
Children aged 4 to 11 years: 1 spray in each nostril once a day, preferably in the morning. Your doctor may increase this to a maximum of 1 spray into each nostril twice a day.
Precautions:
Visual disorders may be reported with Fluticone® Nasal Spray use, which may include cataract, glaucoma.
When Fluticone® Nasal Spray is used at higher than recommended dosages or in susceptible individuals at recommended dosages, systemic corticosteroid effects such as hypercorticism and adrenal suppression may appear. If such changes occur, the dosage should be discontinued slowly.
Routine monitoring in children receiving Fluticone® Nasal Spray to check for any reduction in growth velocity should be considered.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should spray it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not spray a double dose of Fluticone® Nasal Spray to compensate the missed dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
